Francisco Hernández. 1970
He spent his childhood between the River Guadalquivir and the pastures of the Sierra Morena, where his fascination with wildlife evolved hand in hand with his interest in drawing and painting.
A self taught artist, he began his career as an illustrator.
For almost ten years he managed to combine illustration and naturalist painting with his professional duties as a biologist specializing in the study and conservation of large Iberian birds of prey.
Many years of fieldwork have made him extremely knowledgeable about birds, the subject of most of his work. He often paints outdoors, copying real specimens, and he has produced hundreds of sketches in his determination to capture the very soul of birds, their essence, volumes and movement, together with their habitat and its light effects. The definitive composition is finally produced in the studio.
Some of his works reveal a desire to reflect the peaceful coexistence of human beings and wildlife. He has also combined the theme of birds with man-made settings, created to delight the senses and generate spiritual tranquillity, in works representing the Alhambra in Granada and the Cathedral and the Reales Alcazares in Seville.
He has travelled widely with his paintbrushes, to Ireland, Scotland, Finland, Mauritania and the Pyrenees, to see and paint different landscapes and their bird life.
He now devotes all his time to illustration and nature painting, his aim being to convey all the diversity and beauty of wildlife in his works through the artistic discipline known as Wildlife Art.
He has exhibited his work both within Spain and abroad:
Madrid (Spain), Seville (Spain), Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), Almonte (Spain), Capileira (Spain), Pampaneira (Spain), Opheusden (Holland), Rantasalmi (Finland) and Wirral (England).
